Why Church Membership?
On a regular basis you will hear me ask people to make the commitment of church membership. More than just being a regular attendee, a person who commits to church membership says he wants to be “cared for and counted on.” Church membership creates a sense of accountability and community where believers can grow in their faith together.
If you have been considering making the commitment of church membership, then you will want to attend FirstConnection, a two- session class for new members and those contemplating membership. Set for August 21 and August 28, FirstConnection is offered during the 9:45 am Sunday School hour as a convenient time for individuals and families who want to attend.
If you are one of our newer members, then we are expecting you and will have your name badge and booklet prepared. If you are interested in attending as a prospective member to gain more information, then just show up—no preregistration is required. The two sessions are held in the Perry Fellowship Hall, and I look forward to seeing you there.

Who We Are and What We Believe…
First Baptist Statesboro was founded by a group of seven individuals who wanted to make a difference for Jesus Christ in this community. Today, we continue in that same spirit partnering with other Southern Baptist churches to share the Gospel story with our neighbors and around the world. Learn More
Meet Our Pastor – Dr. John Waters
John Waters became our pastor in April 2005, returning to the role of local church pastor after having served as a college administrator for six years. He and his wife, Cynthia, describe themselves as being “hopelessly in love with Statesboro” and the people of First Baptist Church. They have two daughters and sons-in-law, Trisha and Marquis; Bethany and Shane. Learn More
