Dr. John Waters, PastorRead the pastor's blog: Until SundayDr. John Waters became the pastor of FBC Statesboro in April 2005, returning to the role of local church pastor after having served as a college administrator for six years. He and his wife, Cynthia, describe themselves as being hopelessly in love with Statesboro and the people of First Baptist Church. They are the parents of two daughters, Trisha and Bethany. The life verse for Dr. Waters comes from the words of Jesus: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind (Matt 22:37). As pastor of FBC Statesboro, Dr. Waters regularly exhibits his unique ability to embrace and love the diverse families and people that comprise the congregation. His wholehearted love for God is shown daily through his winsome personality, his relevant and biblical preaching, and his commitment to lead First Baptist Church.Raised in a military family, Dr. Waters grew up in various parts of the world and came to know Christ young in life while attending a mission church in Tachikawa, Japan. He and Cynthia enjoy traveling the back roads of Georgia upon their Honda Gold Wing, and he enjoys reading novels by Ken Follet and Clive Cussler.Dr. Waters regularly updates his blog, Until Sunday, which allows church and community members to know him even better through this inside look into his life and family. Before coming to FBC Statesboro, Dr. Waters was a vice president at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Georgia. He began preaching at age 19 and has pastored churches in Dublin, GA, Patillo, TX, Bethune, SC, Perry, GA, and Sylvania, GA. Dr. Waters earned the following academic degrees:
